Week #: 21 Inter-League Tournament

Quick Summary:

  • We were on the winning alliance and are advancing to the L.A. Regional! Praise God!

What We Accomplished: ILT was so much fun, and our robot performed extremely well! We where on the wining alliance, paired with Wolf Corp and Chimera Gears.

Pre-competition activities: At the start of the day, we passed robot inspections, then presented our robot and its design during judging. Since this was the first time any of us had been in a judging session, we had no idea what to expect. Before entering the room, we discussed the key points we wanted to cover and explain to the judges regarding our robot. The session went pretty well, and we successfully communicated everything we had wanted to.

Qualification Match #1: In our first match, we where allianced with the Fedora Bots (13303). Our autonomous run was just shy of perfect. We unlatched, sampled, and deposited our team marker into the depot. At the end of autonomous, however, Snazzy (our robot) was not quite breaking the plane of the crater, and as a result we did not receive a crater parking bonus. In match, we only scored two silver minerals in the lander since we where delayed in picking up minerals from the crater by are alliance partner who was blocking the path. Fortunately our alliance still won.

Qualification Match #2: For our second match, we were paired with Mechanical Mimes (7195). Since they where not a part of our league, we had never met or seen them. Our Autonomous was near perfect, faulted only because we missed sampling. We scored two silver minerals in the lander, and we latched at the end of the match. Unfortunately, while trying to pass our partner’s during the game, we accidentally dislodged their treads and they were disabled for the rest of the match. It was a bit of a bummer, but we still won the match.

Qualification Match #3: Next match we were paired with PEMDAS (14823). They were another team who were not a part of our league. In autonomous we unlatched, missed the sample, drove over to our depot, ran into our alliance robot, dropped our marker in the depot, and then ran into the wall on our way to the crater. We scored a total of four minerals, two silver and two gold.At the end of the match we successfully latched. We won the match by a margin of 80 points. Awesome run!

Qualification Match #4: Wolf Corp (12525) was our alliance partner for the fourth match. We were extremely excited to be paired with them, and we really wanted to do well together. We practiced our Autonomous twice on a practice field before the real match. The real Autonomous went perfect for both of us, but we didn’t sample. Our team scored two silver and two gold minerals, and we both teams latched at the end. Our alliance won this match by 50 points. Thank You, Lord!

Qualification Match #5: Cerritos Dons (15305) was our final alliance partner. Although we unlatched, sampled, and claimed the depot, Snazzy accidentally interfered with the other alliance’s sampling and we got a 40 point penalty. Oops! But we scored four silver and one gold mineral in the lander, as well as latching at the end. Because of the penalty, our alliance lost by about 20 points.

Alliance selection: Since we were ranked fifth in qualification, we were did not get to choose our alliance partners. However, the number one ranking team, Wolf Corp, picked us as their first choice. We eagerly accepted. Chimera Gears was the third team of our alliance. In our the first match, we were paired with Wolf Corp.

Semifinals Match #1: Snazzy’s Autonomous was perfect and we even sampled! We scored three silver and two gold minerals in the lander, and latched at the end. Unfortunately, we lost the match by a mere six points.

Semifinals Match #2: Chimera Gears was paired with Wolf Corp for the second match, and they won by 69 points. Woo-Hoo!

Semifinals Match #2: For the third match, we were again paired with Wolf Corp. We were excited, yet very stressed because if we lost the match, our alliance would be out of the competition. Our Autonomous was once again perfect, but we couldn’t sample because the cube wasn’t in the middle. We dumped one silver and one gold. The match came to a dramatic close as we latched with less than a second to spare. In the end our alliance won by 57 points. Praise the Lord! We’re still in the game and where moving on to finals!

Finals Match #1: For the next match, we were paired with Wolf Corp, and our Autonomous was fantastic, except for the missed sampling. Unfortunately, we only scored one gold mineral in the lander. We had gone to dump two silver, but they both were prohibited by the tongue and they fell to the ground. Our alliance lost the match, and we where back to the stress of being one loss away from elimination.

Finals Match #2: For the next match, Chimera Gears was Wolf Corp’s partner. Even though they enacted a 40 point penalty, our alliance just barely won.

Finals Match #3: For the last and final match, Wolf Corp picked us to be paired with them. Our Autonomous was great, but once again we couldn’t sample. We scored two silver and two gold minerals, and we lifted at the end of the match. By the grace of God, our alliance won by a spectacular 57 points. Hooray, hooray, hooray! Our alliance had won the competition, and we were advancing to the L.A. Regional. We are super excited, and we are extremely grateful to God for fulfilling our hope, which was being on an alliance with Wolf Corp, and winning the competition!

What We Learned at ILT:

We learned how alliance selections are run. It was so much fun and we all love this aspect of FTC!
