Meet 1
Date: 12/1/18
Week #: 12 Meet-1
Quick Summary:
- We got fifth place.
- We learned that our robot does not need to lift 4 inches off the ground in the end game.
- We learned that our robot can never extend outside the field parameters.
What We Accomplished: We were paired with the Polyisoprene Mallards (13171) for our first match. Our Autonomous went perfect, and we put three silver and one gold in the lander. We also successfully climbed. The Robo Panthers (14377) was our partner for the second match. Our Autonomous time went perfect again, we put three silver minerals in the lander, but we did not climb. For the third match, the STEAMpunks Bravo (13277) was our alliance partner. We ran into our alliance robot during the Autonomous period and could not put our marker in the depot or park in the crater. We also only put in two silver minerals, but we latched at the end. For the fourth match, we had the Fedora Bots by SMES (13303) as our partner. During Autonomous, we got stuck on a pin that was holding together the wall so we didn’t deposit the team marker in the depot. But we ended up in the crater at the end of the 30 seconds. We put in two silver minerals and one gold mineral, but we had something very interesting happen. We were heading over to our opponent’s depot to take some minerals because we had run out, and because we had our arm up, their wheel got stuck in our rubber bands. We tried to get unstuck, but we couldn’t, and we ended the match with both of us entangled together on the ground. Oops! For the fifth and final match, we were paired with the Cerritos Dons (15305) team. We unlatched, put our team marker in the depot, and parked in the crater. All we did was to put in two silver minerals and latch back on the lander. Today wasn’t the best competition, and we ended up in fifth place.
What We Learned At Meet-1: We need to make sure that our wheels are tight. We don’t want them to come off during the competition! We learned this by watching another team’s robot lose one of their wheels. We need to replace the battery after the third round so that the robot doesn’t get tired. Because our robot moves along the wall during Autonomous, we need to check to make sure none of the rings from the pins holding the wall together are hanging over the field side. We learned for the first time that in the endgame, our robot does not need to lift itself 4 in. It only needs to not touch the ground. If our robot extends in any way outside of the field parameter, you will get a yellow card. If it happens again, you are disqualified from the match. We learned this when our arm went outside the field parameter and the referee warned us.
