Meet 2
Date: 12/8/18
Week #: 13 Meet-2
Quick Summary:
- We got third place!
- We learned that it is very helpful to talk to our alliance partner during the match.
What We Accomplished: The Husky Bots (7296) was our alliance partner for the first match. The robot started out the Autonomous doing what it was supposed to do, but on its way to the crater it ran into the lander leg and then another robot. We only got one gold mineral into the lander, and we ended the match off the ground. The reason we didn’t get more minerals into the lander, even though we grabbed them out of the crater with our new sliding arm, is because the motor for the arm died and the arm would only lift halfway. So before our next match, we quickly replaced it with a new motor that we had. Thank you, God, that we had an extra motor! For the second match, the Fulton Robotics (14823) team was our partner. Unfortunately, during the Autonomous period the lift did not fully disengage from the lander and got stuck. In fact, when we lowered the lift, which we do at the end of Autonomous in order to be flush with the lander so we can deposit minerals, the lift actually lifted us off the ground again! So, when the driver-controlled period started, we landed for the second time. We got in three silver and one gold mineral and we lifted off the ground at the end. We were partners with the Robo Panthers (14377) for our third match. Autonomous went perfect, but we only deposited one silver mineral because we kept colliding with our alliance partner. We latched at the end. Fedora Bots by SMES (13303) was our alliance partner for the fourth match. We unlatched, ran into our partner’s robot so we didn’t put our marker into the depot, and backed up into the crater. We put in three silver minerals and climbed. We won this match. For our very last match of the day, we were paired with Cerritos Dons (15305). Our Autonomous was perfect, we dumped two silver and one gold mineral, and we climbed. We won this match. Our sliding arm helped us so much today because we didn’t waste any time by waiting for minerals on the ground to be available. We were able to get them ourselves. We were in third place for this competition.
What We Learned At Meet-2: A consistent Autonomous run could be the difference between winning and losing. If we are close to one side of the lander and we only have one of that kind of mineral, just dump it while we’re there so we don’t waste time looking for another one, especially if there is at least two of the other kind nearby. Referees love it when we talk with our alliance partner during the match and it’s very helpful!
