Meet 3
Date: 1/12/19
Week #: 18 Meet-3
Quick Summary:
- We got fifth place in this competition!
- We are going to ILT as fourth in our league!
- We learned that we need to lift higher off the ground in order to compensate for the slight height differences among landers at the competitions.
What We Accomplished: We were paired with Cerritos Dons (15305) for our first match. Our Autonomous went perfect, and we even sampled because the gold mineral was in the middle. Extra bonus! We put two silver and one gold mineral in the lander, and we ended the match off the ground. Our alliance won this match. Fedora Bots by SMES (13303) was our alliance partner for the second round. Despite the fact that our hook got stuck for a second on the lander when our robot drove away from it during the Autonomous, we got the best Autonomous score that we can get, and we even sampled again. We only put two silver minerals in the lander and that is because balls kept running away from us and we accidentally dumped a ball onto the ground after it was in our bucket. Oops! But we ended the match how we always want to, lifted off the ground, and we ended up winning the match. Thank you, Lord! Our alliance partner was STEAMpunks Bravo (13277) for the third match. Our robot got stuck again on the lander as it drove away from it, but the rest of Autonomous was perfect. Although we dumped four gold minerals into the lander, only one went into the correct part. The rest bounced into the other three holders on the lander. We ended the match hanging on the lander, and we won the match. Phew! Our fourth match was quite interesting and sad. Our alliance partner STEAMpunks Alpha (9040) accidentally put their robot on the ground backwards and when the match started, their robot went under the wheels of the opposing alliance’s robot. So our alliance got a 40 point penalty and the other alliance won by about 20 points. That was a big bummer, but we did the best we could. In fact, our robot behaved very well during the TeleOp period, scoring three silver minerals and one gold, and ending the match hanging on the hook. Our Autonomous was messed up because our alliance’s robot interfered with us and partly got under our wheels, so we only lowered to the ground and unlatched. Our partner for the fifth and final match was Robo Panthers (14377). Our robot glitched as soon as we pressed “Go,” so our robot literally lowered, dropped the marker onto the field, and raised back up again. The best reason for the glitching that we have been able to come up with is that our robot’s controls got mixed up and caused the lift to go in the wrong direction for a few seconds. We put two gold minerals in the lander, hooked and pulled ourselves up, but we lost the match. We ended up in fifth place, so we will be heading to ILT as fourth in our league. Thank you, Lord, for all you’ve taught us!
What We Learned at Meet-3: The landers at the competitions can be a slightly different height off the ground than ours. So we need to lift higher off the ground in order to compensate for this.
